Elastomers
Elastomers are flexible, rubber-like plastics deforming under mechanical stress and returning to their original form when the stress is relieved. These material properties make them exceptionally resistant to pressure and tensile forces without permanent deformation.
In pump technology, elastomers are mainly used for seals, hoses, diaphragms, rotors of rotary lobe pumps and stators of progressing cavity pumps. Their chemical resistance and mechanical strength are crucial for reliable pumping of a wide range of media. Depending on the application, different elastomers are used, which vary in their resistance to temperatures, chemicals or abrasion. Selecting the right elastomer is essential for a long service life and optimal functioning of the pump, especially when pumping aggressive, abrasive or highly viscous media.
