Scope 2

Scope 2 includes the indirect greenhouse gas emissions resulting from the generation of the energy that a company purchases and consumes. These include emissions from the production of electricity, heat or steam that the company does not generate itself but purchases from external energy providers.

These emissions are attributed to the company because they are directly linked to its energy consumption. Companies can reduce Scope 2 emissions by switching to renewable energy sources, using energy-efficient technologies or optimising energy consumption patterns. Scope 2 is an integral part of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and plays a central role in evaluating and managing corporate climate protection measures.
