Emotional & Logistical Challenge: The Demolition of the Old NETZSCH Plant I in Waldkraiburg

After 270 days of intensive work, it's done: The old plant I in Liebigstraße in Waldkraiburg, a symbol of NETZSCH Pumps & Systems' successful company history, has been flattened to the ground for good. The move to the new NETZSCH Campus at Geretsriederstraße 1 in Waldkraiburg took place at the beginning of 2023.

The process was a logistical challenge and very emotional for many people. Both current and former employees who had worked at the plant for decades and neighbouring residents watched with keen interest and melancholy as the building was demolished piece by piece by the company Bock & Söhne GmbH.

Environmentally friendly disposal of tonnes of construction waste

Countless excavators, lorries and other heavy equipment were on site during the demolition of the halls and office buildings.

To ensure environmentally friendly disposal, the rubble and other waste was disposed of separately.

Plant I, which covered an area of 16,500 m², generated a huge amount of rubble during the demolition. The individual parts of the building were removed with the utmost care and precision. A total of around 15,000 tonnes of demolition material and waste was produced. In addition to the construction waste, there was various other waste, such as insulation materials, plaster, wood, metals, glass and fluorescent tubes. The professional recycling of this large amount of waste was an immense challenge. To cope with this, around 1,200 lorries were used, transporting the waste to specialised waste disposal companies and thus ensuring environmentally friendly disposal.

After 270 days, the time had come – the old plant was finally a thing of the past. New projects will be developed on the now empty site in the future. Plant I will only live on in the memories of its employees.
