Discharge Side

The discharge side refers to the side of a pump where the pump discharges the medium with increased pressure after it has been sucked in on the suction side and pumped through the pump. Thus, the discharge side is the outlet area of the pump.

On the discharge side of a pump, pipes, valves, and other components transport the pumped medium away from the pump into the target system or consumer. The pressure on the discharge side is higher than on the suction side because the pump expends the energy to move the medium and transport it to the target system. The efficient design of the discharge side is critical to ensure that the pumped medium enters the target system reliably and at the required pressure.
