API
API stands for the American Petroleum Institute, the largest interest group in the oil and gas industry in the United States. This association represents the interests of oil and gas companies and those of the petrochemical industry.
Round about 600 companies are members of the American Petroleum Institute. The API plays an essential role in formulating positions and recommendations on oil consumption, taxes, trade, environmental protection and occupational safety. In addition, the API is instrumental in developing technical guidelines and standards. These standards apply to the industry as a whole and specific pump types and their components. For example, there is API 610 for centrifugal pumps, API 685 for hermetic pumps and API 682 for mechanical seals. In the oil and gas industry, API standards can be mandatory in many cases. Ensuring that the pumps and units used comply with these standards is also necessary. This ensures quality, safety and efficiency in the industry.
