Drive

The pump's drive is a vital construction unit providing the necessary energy to operate the pump. The drive system is usually composed of a motor and a drive mechanism. Its main task is to set the pump in motion to enable the pumping of liquids.

The choice of the appropriate drive depends on several factors, including the power requirements of the pump, ease of maintenance and energy efficiency. There are various drive types for pumps, varying depending on the pump type, application and pumping requirements. The name of a pump often indicates the type of drive. For example, hand pumps are manually operated, electric pumps are usually equipped with electric motors, and piston pumps are driven by piston motors. Electric motors are a widespread type of drive and can be used flexibly and energy-efficiently with the help of frequency inverters. These frequency inverters allow variable speed control, particularly important when the pump's operating conditions are not constant and the flow rates must be controlled efficiently.
