Conveying Capacity

The conveying capacity refers to the volume or mass of a medium a pump transports in a certain period of time.

It is usually specified in cubic metres per hour (m³/h), litres per minute (l/min) or kilograms per hour (kg/h), depending on the specific application and the physical properties of the medium being conveyed. The actual conveying capacity of a pump depends on several factors:

  • Pump type: Different designs, such as progressing cavity pumps, rotary lobe pumps or multi screw pumps, influence the achievable flow rate.
  • Viscosity and composition of the medium: Higher viscosities or solids content can reduce the flow rate.
  • Delivery height and pressure conditions: Increasing delivery heights or counterpressures in the system affect the actual delivery rate.
  • Pump speed: Increasing the speed usually increases the delivery rate as long as no cavitation or excessive wear occurs.
  • System resistances: Pipe diameters, valves or filters influence the effective delivery rate.
